We had a cruisy last day in Istanbul. We wandered around discovering the Karakoy neighbourhood. Karakoy was filled with awesome little cafes, hidden amongst side streets, covered with grape vine canopies in between an eclectic mix of hardware and fishing stores. We had brunch at a cafe called Unter. I had French Toast with honey and feta, which was super yummy!
The leafy streets of Karakoy
So turns out French Toast with feta and honey is a winning combo! Jason had a cheesy, spinachy, eggy toast thing. Equally delicious.
The Karakoy area has a really good feel to it. We wandered around the streets with no particular aim. We stopped at another cafe called Bi' Nevi for a drink. It was a cool little place serving raw, vegan, paleo etc options. They gave us a free sweet potato and almond meal brownie. Stoked!
Not so great quality iPhone photo, wah!
The rest of our day was spent packing and getting ready for our overnight bus to Goreme in the Cappadocia region of Istanbul. We had to get a taxi to the coach office in central Istanbul, then a mini bus to the main bus terminal in Istanbul. Our bus was scheduled for about 11pm, but it turned up an hour and a half later. We were starting to wonder whether it was coming at all, and even when we got on the bus we still weren't convinced it was the right one. It was a little tricky with the language barrier. We were due to arrive in Goreme at 9.30am, but arrived at around 1pm. What a huge and tiring experience!
We've done so much here in Goreme already, but we will save it for the next blog post!
Love, Gem and Jace xx
